Our Sew Girls Can Go to School initiative is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve her potential. By helping to end period poverty, we remove a barrier that prevents many girls from attending school regularly and participating fully in their education. Access to reusable menstrual products not only supports their health and dignity but also helps keep them in the classroom, where they can gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to build brighter futures. Together, we are investing in education, empowering young women, and creating opportunities that can transform lives for generations to come. We invite all members to join us for this meaningful hands-on project. Whether you are an experienced sewer or simply willing to lend a hand, there is a role for everyone. Beyond the impact we make together, these events offer a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fellowship, share stories, strengthen friendships, and experience the camaraderie that makes Rotary so special. Come out, have some fun, connect with fellow Rotarians, and help us make a lasting difference—one stitch at a time. |

Please join us for a special presentation featuring Shashi Bedti from the Rotary Club of Whitby, who will be sharing the story behind the Backpack Hygiene Kit Project—a wonderful humanitarian initiative making a meaningful difference in the lives of students in remote Nunavut communities. The project provides high school students with essential hygiene products and school supplies, helping to address some of the unique challenges faced by northern communities. With basic personal-care items sometimes costing up to ten times more in the Arctic than in southern Canada, these backpacks provide much-needed support to students and their families. Come out and learn more about this inspiring initiative, hear about the difference it is making, and discover how Rotarians are coming together to help ensure students have access to the essentials they need. We’d love to have you join us as we welcome Shashi and learn more about this incredible project! Join us for an evening of conversation, insight and a behind-the-scenes look at the grocery industry and the people who make it happen! We’re pleased to welcome Ian Smylie, who will share his experiences in the grocery business, including the challenges and opportunities that come with carrying on a family business. Ian is the second generation to take the reins of Smylie’s Independent following the passing of his father John, continuing the family’s commitment to serving the community. Ian will be joined by Liz, a valued member of the Smylie’s Independent team who is taking the exciting steps toward becoming an independent grocer herself. Together, they’ll share their experiences, the realities of the grocery industry, and what it takes to build and carry forward a successful independent business. Smylie’s has also been a wonderful supporter of our Rotary Club and many organizations throughout our community, and we’re grateful for the many ways Ian and his team continue to give back.
